March Playlist

Hey guys,

I think like most people, music can play a huge part in their lives. Music can help bring them back to specific memory, remind them of a specific person, or just help them get through the day. As for me, it has been a huge part in my creative process. I love blasting it in my room while I work through the night. This month while working on my personal projects, I've discovered new artists that some of you might be into- Khalid, Alabama Shakes, and Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment.

I suggest you start off with theses songs and if you like them listen to the rest of their album.

Khalid-Location, Coasting, Young, Dumb & Broke.
Alabama Shakes- This Feeling, Don't Wanna Fight, Hold On.
Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment- Familiar, Slip and Slide, Don't Go.
Childish Gambino- Redbone (He isn't a new artist but this song has been all I've listened to for 2 weeks straight.)

Maybe you've already heard of them and I'm a little late. Whatever the case, check them out!

I've linked their Spotify accounts below.

Typography Process

Hey guys,

So some of you asked me how I created the type I posted on my instagram. So I'm showing you my process and hopefully it answers some of your questions.

1. I sketched out the word a few times until I found what I was looking for. I used a highlighter with a flat tip.

2. Then I brought it into illustrator and vectorized it.

3. I played around with the style and kerning of the letters.

4. Then I brought it all into photoshop to created the shadows and edit the background picture.

That's it. Hopefully this helped!

Design Inspiration

Hey guys,

I've been discovering many talented women over at instagram and thought to dedicate a post calling them out. This might be a monthly thing, where I bring you a list of amazing designers, artists, and creative souls to check out for yourself. Since International Woman's Day happened earlier this month I thought I focus on creative women. That being said, these ladies were the ones who inspired me to start illustrating and continue to do so.

Here are a few samples of their work. Everything is linked to their instagram accounts. Check them out!

12 by 12 Book Challenge

Hey guys,

One of my goals this year was to read more books, and it seems like I'm not the only one. This is probably not a new challenge but I decided to adopt the idea of reading one book a month. At first, I thought it would eat up my time from my other projects, along with having a full-time job, but I found that it has actually helped me stay creative. I mix it up between digital, physical, or audio books, depending on my mood or the author's writing style.

For those who are into physical books but don't want to spend the money I suggest checking out They sell books for as low as $3 but the price varies depending on the book. I already bought three of my 12 books from there and now just waiting on them to arrive.

If you guys decide to do this challenge with me, let me know. I'm also open to book recommendations.

Book Challenge
1. A Return to Love- Marrianne Williamson
2. Mastery- Robert Greene
3. The Happines Advantage- Shawn Achor
4. Mr. Mercedes (Series) - Stephen King
5. Finders Keepers- Stephen King
6. End of Watch- Stephen King
7. Fight Club- Chuck Palahniuk
8. All the Ugly and Wonderful Things- Bryn Greenwood
9. Virgin Suicides- Jeffrey Eugenides
10.The Five Love Languages

It's Valentine's Day and since it's a day of love I thought that I share my art and give away free prints. Basically I'm giving away my illustrations for free the rest of the month. All you have to do is DM me saying you want one and I'll mail it to you, but it'll be a surprise as to which illustration you will get. I only printed out a few so once I run out that's it.

The prints are 5x7. If  you like the work and want to support follow me @lxckycharm_

Weekend Adventures

This past weekend was the opening of Hall of Magic, an event inspired by Syfy's original series, The Magicians. It was an interactive installation with multiple rooms depicting different types of illusions. The main event was the levitation room, which was pretty awesome. Going to events like this keeps me inspired and eager to create. Here are some pics of the weekend.

New Personal Project

I've always talked about pursuing a personal project but never really knew what direction or medium I would use to execute it. This year I finally took the plunge and committed to illustrating digital art. The following pictures are still a work in progress, but I wanted to share them anyways. Sharing it with you and putting it out there in the world is holding me accountable to what I've committed to this year. If you are interested, you can follow my illustration journey

Goals & Such

It's interesting how a new year can totally reset your mindset (at least that's how it is for me). It has been a year since moving here and it's been pretty tough. Finding your pocket in the city and really taking a look at what it means to be independent and alone has been a challenge. I can truthfully say that I failed in finding a set routine and embracing this new adventure. I really played it safe for the most part.

Then when the holidays came around it really hit me that I was alone in this city. It was the first time I wasn't with my family and having to experience it alone. So that got me to thinking. Am I really okay being alone? Is this what it means to have your independence?

I decided that this year will be the year I will take the time to get to know me. Who I am in this new city, what I like to do, and the time to invest in quality relationships.

I'm feeling optimistic.
